Overseeing all operational sectors, he grants approvals and provides supervision while ensuring the center’s continuous growth and development. With proper leadership and strategic direction, the Institutional Head efficiently manages the administrative officers and staff. Furthermore, he is responsible for implementing innovations, infrastructure improvements, and strengthening community relations to enhance the institution’s overall progress.
The Chief Incumbent of the Nelligala International Buddhist Center is Venerable Kohuliyadde Dhammawansa Thero, who dutifully carries out his responsibilities in overseeing the spiritual and administrative functions of the center. Under the guidance of the Institutional Head, the Chief Incumbent supervises and ensures the smooth functioning of all assigned duties across different divisions of the center. He plays a crucial role in managing daily operations, administration, leadership, and guidance while maintaining discipline and efficiency. Additionally, the Chief Incumbent is responsible for overseeing the duties of the institutional staff, ensuring proper workforce management, and facilitating smooth organizational operations. His responsibilities include maintaining both internal and external relationships, fostering connections with devotees and visitors, and overseeing financial management, including commercial activities and resource allocation, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the institution.
The Thero in head of sacred puja and rituals of Offerings at the Nelligala International Buddhist Center is Venerable Vilpita Kushaladhamma Thero, who is responsible for overseeing all religious offerings and related activities. One of the most revered places within the Nelligala International Buddhist Center is the Shakya Singha Sugandha Kutiya, where sacred relics are enshrined. The monk in charge ensures that all offerings and rituals are conducted in accordance with the guidance and instructions provided by the Institutional Head, adhering strictly to traditional and disciplined religious practices.
The Sambuddha Pooja Division at the Nelligala International Buddhist Center operates under the leadership of Mr. U.G. Madhusanka Dilshan Jayaratne, who is responsible for managing all activities related to Buddha Pooja and sacred offerings. This division ensures the proper organization of Buddha Poojas, including gathering contributions, arranging the necessary offerings, and coordinating with the Resident Monk in Charge of Offerings. Additionally, tasks such as maintaining the pooja schedule, overseeing the Nadārakada Araksha (offering guardianship) section, and organizing the Sambuddha Pooja teams fall under this division’s responsibility. Furthermore, this unit manages all monastic requirements, including providing essential supplies to the resident theros of Nelligala International Buddhist Center and the extended Sangha community. The division also facilitates charitable activities, ensuring the smooth execution of meritorious deeds and religious events.
The Administrative Division of the Nelligala International Buddhist Center operates under the leadership of Mr. H.K. Tharaka Sandaruwan koralalegeadra, who is responsible for managing all administrative functions within the institution. This division ensures the efficient operation of both internal and external affairs of the center. Key responsibilities include assisting and guiding visitors and devotees, maintaining proper coordination among all departments, and executing the directives of the Chief Incumbent thero under his supervision. Additionally, this division oversees and manages human resources, assets, and procedural frameworks, ensuring a well-structured administrative system. It also supervises related sub-units, such as; Security Division, Electrical and Technical Unit, Cleaning and Sanitation DepartmentThe division is responsible for monitoring and maintaining these units, ensuring a well-organized and smooth operational environment at the Nelligala International Buddhist Center.
The Human Resources and Media Division of the Nelligala International Buddhist Center operates under the leadership of Mr. A.R. Bhagya Prasanna Jayankodi. This division is responsible for managing staff affairs, internal and external communications, and media relations to ensure the smooth functioning of the institution.
Key Responsibilities of Human Resources Management are, Workforce Management – Overseeing employee and volunteer coordination, Payroll and Accounting – Processing salaries and maintaining financial records, HR Administration – Managing institutional personnel affairs efficiently.
Key Responsibilities of Media and Public Relations: Information and Communication – Announcing important updates to visitors and devotees, Media Coordination – Organizing promotional and public relations activities, Social Media Management – Handling institutional representation on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, WhatsApp, and Snapchat to enhance outreach, Press and News Editing – Preparing news releases, announcements, and institutional updates for public dissemination, Social Outreach and Campaigns – Managing publicity for charitable events, community projects, and special programs, Website and Digital Presence – Overseeing official websites and online portals.
This division plays a crucial role in maintaining the institution’s public image, media influence, and effective human resources management, ensuring that the Nelligala International Buddhist Center functions efficiently and continues its spiritual and social contributions.
The Tourism Promotion Unit is headed by K.M.G.D Nuwan Bandara Thilakarathna. This unit primarily manages administrative activities under the direction of the Chief Monk and works with the human resources and media sectors. The unit is responsible for attracting tourists and promoting the tourism industry, particularly at the Nelligala International Buddhist Centre.
One of its main tasks is organizing promotional activities to showcase the environment and culture of the Nelligala International Buddhist Centre to visitors. Additionally, the unit collaborates with local businesses, hotels, airlines, and international travel agencies to attract tourists. It also provides guidance and directions to tourists to enhance their experience.
The Construction and Development Division of the Nelligala International Buddhist Center operates under the leadership of Mr. R.M. Amila Prageeth Rathnayake. This division is responsible for overseeing infrastructure projects, maintenance, and renovations within the center. This division ensures the proper maintenance, preservation, and expansion of the center’s sacred spaces and facilities, contributing to its continued spiritual and social mission.
The Daily Religious Practices, Sangha Welfare, and Social Services Division of the Nelligala International Buddhist Center play a vital role in maintaining the center’s religious, monastic, and community welfare activities. Under the guidance of Ven. Sigirithe Chandarathana Thero, the division ensures proper care and support for the resident Sangha by organizing daily almsgiving (Gilampasa), Buddha Poojas, and devotional offerings. It also manages significant religious observances, including Buddha Vandana and meditation programs, fostering spiritual enrichment within the community.
Additionally, the Social Services sector, led by cen Sigiriye Chandarathana Thero and Mr. U.G. Prasanna Saruwan, focuses on charitable initiatives aimed at supporting underprivileged families by providing essential supplies and assistance. Furthermore, it organizes various charitable projects to uplift society, including educational and welfare programs. The Sanskrit Buddhist Institute of the Nelligala International Buddhist Center, under the leadership of Mr. Chaminda Jayawardene, serves as a key center for the preservation and promotion of Sri Lankan Buddhist traditions and other regional Buddhist practices. The primary role of this division is to teach and preserve the rich heritage of Sanskrit Buddhist practices, linking traditional Sri Lankan Buddhist teachings with broader global Buddhist practices. This division also facilitates the exchange of knowledge and ideas with other Buddhist communities across the world, fostering greater understanding and collaboration on a global scale. Through its efforts, it plays a crucial role in spreading the essence of the teachings and practices associated with the Buddhist tradition.
This unit operates under the guidance and leadership of Ven. Wahurakumbure Dhammarathana Thero, with the support of the Shakya Singha Youth Buddhist Organization (Shakya Singha Tharuna Bauddha Sanvidhanaya) and the Shakya Singha Hospitality Foundation (Shakya Singha Sathkaraka Padanama). The primary purpose of this unit is human resource management for organizing large-scale religious, educational, and cultural events.
The Cultural Center of Nelligala International Buddhist Centre is dedicated to preserving and promoting Buddhist traditions, arts, and heritage.
