Mattala International Sri Angeerasa Buddhist Centre

Mattala International Sri Angeerasa Buddhist Centre

A brief description of the planned constructions of the Mattala Sri Shakyasingha International Cultural Buddhist Center, which is designed to be built incorporating all temple structures, is given below. In addition to the fundamental temple structures of a Buddhist shrine, several special institutions have been incorporated into this Buddhist center to expand international relations and provide the necessary space to enhance locally available services. The services provided to the world through this temple complex are further presented in the benefits section.

The great stupa, which is to be enshrined with the sacred relics of the Fully Enlightened One, can be considered a revered monument that will bring further sanctity to Magampattuwa. It is proposed to be built similar to the great stupa at Kuragala Rajamaha Viharaya, which was constructed following the design of the Ruwanwelisaya

The Mattala Sugandha Mandiraya is planned to be built following the architectural design of the Sugandha Mandiraya constructed at Nelligala, Kuragala, Ambulugala, and Yatihalaga viharas, where the sacred relics of the Fully Enlightened One and the great Arahants are enshrined. The Sugandha Mandiraya will be constructed as a two-story building, adorned with three gateways – Naga Dvara ( Serpent Gate), Deva Dvara (Deity Gate), and Brahma Dvara (Brahma Gate). At its center, there will be a pavilion housing the golden relic casket in a seated position.

A sapling from the sacred Vijaya Sri Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, which stands in the Mahamewna Garden of Anuradhapura, will be planted on the temple grounds. The Bodhi Mandapaya is planned to be constructed with an enclosure to ensure the protection of the sacred Bodhi tree.

This project proposes to construct the largest Dhamma hall in the Hambantota District, capable of accommodating 5,000 devotees to listen to Dhamma sermons simultaneously. Through this, not only the offering of Dhamma but also a variety of social and cultural activities are expected to be conducted.

A residential meditation center is planned to be established to promote mental well-being and spiritual development. This center will provide proper guidance and necessary facilities for Buddhist devotees to learn Buddhist meditation techniques and for foreigners interested in Eastern meditation practices to undergo meditation training. Within the proposed land’s natural and serene environment, anyone, both local and foreign, will have the opportunity to cultivate mental well-being through meditation and progress on the path to Nirvana.

This proposed project aims to share knowledge with the world about Dhamma, Sri Lankan history, and culture through a Tourist Information Center that provides local and international tourists with information on tourism, religion, and history, as well as a vast Buddhist library housing 10,000 Dhamma books.

This art center aims to preserve and pass down the unique Low Country dance tradition to future generations while also nurturing the artistic talents of local children. This will also provide an opportunity for foreigners to experience and learn Sri Lanka’s traditional dance arts.

The building will house the Sanghawasa, providing a comfortable residence for residence for resident monks as well as visiting monks from both Sri Lanka and abroad. It will also include the administrative center, where the institution’s management activities will be carried out.

There are only a few institutions in the Hambantota District that provide vocational guidance and education. For this reason, the Shakyasingha Vocational Training Center is being established to provide structured training, helping students who miss out on university admission overcome barriers and pursue careers that match their skills and talents. Through this initiative, it is expected to address unemployment In the Hambantota District and create a prosperous future for young men and women.

This center will serve as the operational hub for the Southern Province activities of the Shakyasingha Youth Organization, which has already been established within our temple network. Comprising over 100,000 Sinhala and Tamil youth, the organization is dedicated to the spiritual, educational, and economic development of young people.

From the very beginning of our journey, which started with the establishment of the Yatihalagala Rajamaha Viharaya as an active place of worship, the Shakyasiigha Preschool was founded to support the early childhood development of young children in the surrounding villages. Subsequently, the Shakyasingha Preschool expanded to provide primary education for children living around the temples we established. It is also planned to launch the preschool within the proposed Mattala International Cultural Buddhist Center. Through this initiative, young children from low-income families in the surrounding villages will receive a strong foundation in early childhood education, enabling them to transition smoothly into primary education.
