At the conclusion of the Kumbal Perahera of the historic Esala Perahera in Senkadagala (Kandy), at the commencement of the Randoli Perahera, the traditional honey offering (Mee Peni Pooja) is ceremonially performed by the Uruwarige Wannila Aththo, the chieftain of the indigenous people of Sri Lanka.

In the present day, this revered offering of honey, originally dedicated to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, is also presented to the second most venerated Buddhist site—*the Nelligala International Buddhist Centre. At this sacred site, within the majestic *Sri Shakya Sinha Sugandha Kutiya, the indigenous chieftain offers the holy honey to the Blessed One (the Buddha) and the noble arahants, continuing the tradition in honor of the sanctity of this spiritual location.
